When I launch command.com on my computer, it allows me to read ÇÑ±Û documents from the console window, and input ÇѱÛ. This is good, MOST OF THE TIME. However, there's one way in which it's really frustrating me.

I sometimes want to run console applications that have ASCII art (intended for an English PC). On my Korean computer, all this stuff gets converted to ÇѱÛ. So if there's some really cool artwork done through ASCII-based box drawing, it shows up as ugly ÇÑ±Û and ÇÑÀÚ characters instead of the original ASCII art.

How it should look:

How it actually looks because my Korean PC is screwing it up:

This problem is really aggravating, because I'm trying to write a game that runs on the Win32 console that has ASCII graphics, and no matter what I try, my Korean PC always overrides the ASCII graphics and turns them into nonsense ÇÑ±Û and ÇÑÀÚ.

I've tried DOSBox and booting from boot disks. Neither of these things works, because the program requires Win32 to run, not just pure DOS.

I FOUND THE SOLUTION! After days of research, I finally realized you can change the "code page" with the command CHCP.

So if you type the following into the command prompt, you'll get the original IBM code page (not hangeul):
CHCP 437

This should allow your Korean PC to display ASCII art just fine. I hope this helps!

Hahaha, I actually was asking the people on this forum for help, but I found the solution right after that (even though I'd been searching for days). It was just a timing coincidence.
